General Information
Sumter Juniors is an in-house (no travel) soccer program targeted for children ages 4 to 12 years old. While recreational in nature, the program is built on the development of good training habits and soccer fundamentals rather than just gameplay. The curriculum is generally 8 weeks in length with 2 training sessions and 1 game per week.
Sumter Juniors training is targeted at ball mastery with an emphasis on individual dribbling skills and introduction to shooting and passing technique. Training is conducted in training pools generally consisting of 10-15 children with 1-2 instructors depending on the activity for the evening. The sessions are 45 minutes in length 2 nights per week. Training nights and times vary pending season and age of the player. Pools are generally broken down by some combination of age and skill level to accommodate different levels of play and training.
Games are played in several small sided format using 4v4 and 6v6. There are no goalkeepers used in the youngest age group. The idea is to create an environment where the children are encouraged to express themselves on the ball and have measurable success on the field. Teams are assigned and will consist of 4-6 players. Team numbers are kept small to enable each child to get the maximum amount of playing time.
As with all of our programs, we expect the parent to be engaged in the program and will always welcome parents who are willing/able to assist with training, field set-up, maintenance, and / or coaching.
